Why does this record/record player sound so bad?
So I recently purchased a used Led Zeppelin I vinyl record. I tested it out on the player and Side 1 sounded awful. It sounded sad, like the guitar just didn't sound good and it was like it was being pulled down. Does that make sense? Robert Plant's voice was dropping. Just didn't sound good. I can't really describe what it sounds like, but it doesn't sound good. When I flip it over to Side 2 it sounds absolutely perfect. There are no visible scratches on either side. I have a Numark portable PT-01 record player.
Could dust be causing it to sound so bad on Side 1? If not, what is? There are no scratches at all. What advice do you have?
It sounds to me like someone had a bad needle and played side one over and over with it..you might try a deep cleaning which might help but if the vinyl is damaged permanently it will only have minor effects....
